Cochlear Implant8/26/2019 Hi guys!
Been planning to document my journey leading up to the cochlear implant surgery. After much contemplating and detour, I figured a short journal style might be a good start. Probably might update more in social media, so anyway here it is. Day ?? A friend, Mei introduced me about cochlear implant surgery subsidy. ENT department received government funding for hard-of-hearing/deaf Singaporean. Day 1 Meet Dr Savitha, an audiologist who will be in charge of my case. Done hearing test, assessments and evaluation. Given type of processor models information. Day 2 Meet Dr Low for evaluation and briefing on up-coming appointments and surgery. Day 3 Went for CT Scan. Day 4 CT Scan result revealed and passed the candidacy for subsidy. Dr Low briefed on vaccinations and following appointments. Day 5 Received first vaccination dose. Prevenar (Pneumococcal). Day 6 Received second vaccination dose. Day 7 Went for post-operation therapy. Day 8 Went for anesthesia assessment. And briefing on hospitalisation. Day 9 Surgery day admission. 3 deep breaths in this oxygen mask and black out. Day 10 Had a dream with many taps on shoulder and mild noises. Woke up heavily bandaged and sore neck. And the night was tough. Day 11 Had my first meal with carrots cake. Would just barely tasted a little of sweet and spicy sauce. It seem the taste buds were slightly affected. Discharged from hospital. Day 12 Had another rough night, so I went and order pillows online. Good new is that I am able to eat normally but I’ll have to chew slowly. Tinnitus through the entire day, but it was manageable. Minimal fluids oozing from wound which is expected.
